Dear Diary: My 8-Week Journey Into Pole

Week 1
I almost didn’t walk through the door. My hands were sweaty, my heart racing. I told myself it was “just a fitness class,” but deep down, I knew I was here for something more. The first time I touched the pole, I felt clumsy… but also curious. Like maybe, just maybe, this could be the start of something big.

Week 2
Today, I spun without slipping. It wasn’t perfect, but I laughed the whole way through. My instructor smiled and said, “See? You can do more than you think.” I left feeling taller — not because I’d grown, but because I was standing in my own skin a little more confidently.

Week 3–4
I’m starting to move differently — not just here in the studio, but everywhere. My shoulders pull back, my chin lifts, and I catch glimpses of myself in the mirror thinking, Is that me? I’m feeling muscles I didn’t know I had… and a confidence I thought I’d lost.

Week 5
Something happened tonight. I stopped trying to get it “right” and started letting it feel right. I heard the music, and for a few minutes, it was just me, the pole, and the way my body wanted to move. Strong. Feminine. Free.

Week 6–7
My legs don’t shake as much in holds now. My hands grip tighter. My spins are smoother. But the biggest change isn’t physical — it’s the way I own my space. I’m not apologising for taking up room anymore.

Week 8
It’s the last class, and I don’t want it to end. Eight weeks ago, I came in looking for a class. What I found was strength, sensuality, and a side of myself I didn’t even know I’d been missing.

Pole didn’t just change my body. It changed the way I see myself.
